Euro 2016 fans ‘trample over each other’ to escape after firecrackers spark stampede at Paris fan zone during match
THE Euro 2016 fan zone in Paris was evacuated yesterday night amid horrifying scenes as smoke caused a great panic among football fans watching Germany’s quarter final with Italy.
At approximately 10.20pm smoke was spotted by supporters, and the panicked crowd fled the scene, fearing another ISIS attack.
Panic was sparked when a number of firecrackers were thrown into the area, which is located on Champ de Mars at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
The loud noises sparked fear among fans that a bomb had exploded, setting off a stampede.
